Day 8
In your own space, talk about a talent (or talents) you have. Everyone's got something they're good at.
1. I'm a good writer. I feel odd saying that, but I suppose that's because we live in a society that tells us that we need to wait for others to tell us that rather than declaring it for ourselves. There have been times when I've read back over things I've written, and for a while, I've forgotten they were mine, and I really enjoyed reading them as a fan, not just as a writer reading her own work. Also, I think I'm pretty good at soaking up and imitating various writer's styles.
2. I'm decently musically talented. In the past, I played piano, viola, and flute, and though I'm a bit rusty I could probably pick any of them up again with a little work.
3. I'm not sure if this is a talent so much as a skill I've picked up through a lot of trial and error, but I think I'm a good teacher. I got into this career because it would let me pay my bills without killing my soul in retail or an office job, but the more I've taught, the more I've started to see new and better ways to do things, to get students to improve their writing. Sure, there are always frustrations, but I think that I have at least some natural aptitude for the job. (It might be genetic. Both of my parents are teachers.)
