Moving into our own place at last...

In the midst of all of the PotC related excitement, I forgot to talk much about the fact that Rae and I are moving. She and
ghettopeach and I have been housemates since 2004, and several other people have roomed with us over the years. Rae and I got together as a couple in 2007, though, and with her recent graduation from her master's program, and the fact that it's expensive to live in our big, nice house, we needed to downsize and find a place that could be just ours. We started looking for places seriously last month, and we found a privately owned condo in a lovely little community that's two freeway exits down from where we live now. It's considerably smaller than the space we're in currently, and we're going to have to get rid of a lot of furniture I would rather not part with, but it's going to be our space. And as much as I detest moving (and those of you who have moved with me before know just how much I hate it...), I'm looking forward to being able to make decisions and decorate and arrange things as a couple. Don't get me wrong... I love and continue to love all of the people I've lived with over the years, but it was time for us to get our own space.
The new place itself is very nice. It's got two bedrooms with the one bathroom connecting them, a kitchen with a very decent amount of storage space, a garage we have to share with the neighbors downstairs (we get half), and a connected living room/dining room setup. It's got a ton of windows, and since it's an upper unit, it has a high ceiling that makes it feel quite spacious. Even so, we're going to have an interesting time arranging even the furniture we're keeping. The good thing is, we got the keys last night, and we don't have to be out of our old place until the 30th. That means we get to move slowly, bring things over one load at a time, and clean and organize as we go. Hopefully, most of the big things will be moved the weekend of the 25th, and that gives us five days to do a really thorough cleaning of the old house before we hand over the keys.
I'm trying to be positive, look at all of this as an adventure and the start of a new phase of our relationship. We're pulling things out of boxes that we bought for when we had a place of our own (like pottery from ren faire and bowls with sailing ship motifs), and we're finally going to get to use them. I'm looking forward to that.
