Day 6. Tell about a favorite/funny/happy memory of your involvement in the PotC fandom.

First of all, it is nearly impossible to choose just one memory.  I have met so many people and had so many fun, wonderful, enlightening conversations.  I've squeed, I've raged, I've cried, I've ficced and discussed ships (romantic and the kind with sails, rudder, etc.), and through it all, I'm so happy to have been part of this fandom.  Coming home to find an interesting new fic, pretty icons, or an engaging discussion going on in one of the communities never fails to lift my spirits.

That said, I think that one of my favorite fandom memories is the first day I really got to know [profile] scifichicx and [personal profile] estelofimladris.  It was [profile] scifichicx's birthday, and she'd invited Rae, who asked if I could tag along.  The answer was a hesitant "I guess..." what with the concern that I might be a little too "normal."  (A fear that was soon allayed....) When I walked up to her house, there was a pirate flag flying from the front porch.  We walked back through the house and into the back yard, only to see [personal profile] estelofimladris in a very early version of her Will Turner outfit sword figthing with Mike while balancing precariously on a trailer bed on wheels and re-enacting the fight scene from the smithy while the soundtrack played in the background. In that moment, I had a feeling that I'd found some People I Need to Know Better. (This later led to the Norrington Costume sewing marathon, multiple photo shoots, and other things I never would have done if I hadn't met them...)

And now for a funny moment...  It was Comic-Con, the year that Dead Man's Chest came out, and [personal profile] estelofimladris and I were walking around Comic-Con as Will and Norrington (we had a Jack, but she wasn't with us when this happened).  Yes, we're both girls, but we had both put countless hours into our costumes, and we looked awesome. Or at least I thought we did.  Until the first person came up to us and asked, "Which one of you is supposed to be Captain Jack?" We looked at each other like, "Really? REALLY?" And said "Neither." in as bland a tone as we could muster.  Then it happened again.  A couple of people recognized Will, eventually, but lots of people were asking me, "Who are you? A random pirate?"  I tried not to glare. Then, as we wandered around the hall, we walked by one of the book tables where an author was signing, and all of the books were by Peter S. Beagle, which meant that the older gentleman sitting at the end of the table was... him. I've loved The Last Unicorn since before I was old enough to read and I'd make my mom rent the video every single weekend.  So, I bought a book and sheepishly asked him to sign it, feeling kind of self-conscious talking to him in a scruffy blue navy jacket with a bunch of man-scruff-makeup all over my face.  He looks up at me, gets this big smile on his face, and says, "Commodore Norrington!"  I didn't care WHO else confused me with Jack Sparrow the rest of con.

I think, though, that when this round of PotC excitement is said and done, I'll  also say that I really enjoyed the anticipation leading up to OST.  No matter what people think of the movie, getting to interact with so many people and getting to know some long time fans I've seen around but never really spoken to these past few months and weeks has been wonderful.
