So, after taking my computer to my school's computer repair place a week ago today, I finally have it back. All of my data transferred over just fine, and my machine now runs a million times faster. The nice fellows who fixed my computer upgraded me to Windows 7 and the new version of all of the MS Office products I use all the time, so I guess it's time to stop complaining about how they're different when I have to use them on school computers and make them work for me.  Now that I've downloaded Semagic and my Gradekeeper program, I'm starting to feel right at home except for all the stuff that's really different.  (Library?  What the heck is a library?)

Anyway... life is good. We went to the SoCal ren faire last week, and I bought an absurd amount of pottery, more candles to ad to my burgeoning collection, a glass perfume bottle necklace, and two more double-sided copper coin pendants, both with fandom significance. (One was a raven and a fox because it reminded me of Mat Cauthon... *sigh* It was only a matter of time.) This weekend, we're going up to Visalia for the Visalia faire and staying with my parents. Hopefully, I'll get a lot of grading done, since there are two sets of essays I MUST give back on Monday, or my students won't be able to do their portfolio.

My garden is humming along nicely.  My squash plants exploded after I thinned them, and even the recent rains haven't stopped their progress. Several of them are now showing baby flowers nestled at the base of their stems, and they all seem to be putting off tons of new leaves with no problem. I also keep discovering new nasturtium seedlings that have finally come up on all sides of the citrus trees. Hopefully, they'll trail nicely and surround my citrus with flowers. Now if only the other variety I planted on either side of the veggies would sprout...

It was odd being without a computer for a week... I was something of a nomad, hopping on Rae's computer when I could, checking email at school, not really having anywhere to call my electronic home... it's good to be back on a machine that's mine and arranged just how I like it. Not having my own computer for a while highlighted how very important that is to me. I spend a lot of time writing, grading, and doing necessary (and not-so-necessary) things online, and it's nice to have a computer that has exactly what I need exactly where I need it again.
