Snowflake Challenge Day 12: Three Good Intro Fics

Day 12

In your own space, rec at least three fanworks that you think would make a good intro into XYZ fandom. Rec a fandom overview, a introductory picspam, stories that define and shape the fandom.

Why hello there, weary traveler!  I see that you've wandered in to my humble establishment with your newly watched Robin Hood DVD's under your arm.  Just got through the series finale, huh? Here, sit down.  Rest a while.  Have some of our fine ale.

Oh? What's that? You thought that Guy and Marian would have been amazing together, and you're looking for fanfic that will help you to fill the gaping hole left by 2x13 and the end of the series? Well, it just so happens that you're in luck...

Before I get to the fic, I must make some broader suggestions first.  If you're looking for community, make your way over to The Robin Hood Fan Community Forums, which are moderated by the ever-so-congenial [livejournal.com profile] ladykate63. There are episode discussions, fic challenges, icon contests, and some really thought-provoking meta.

For shippy fic, there's [livejournal.com profile] guyxmarian, and a lot of the stuff on [livejournal.com profile] lordgisborne.

For long fic featuring a variety of characters, there's [livejournal.com profile] bigbanghood for the 2009 stories, and [livejournal.com profile] rhbigbang for the 2010 and 2011 stories. If you've only got a few minutes, for some really excellent short fic, there's [livejournal.com profile] rh_drabblefest.

As for specific recommendations...

1. Read [livejournal.com profile] bookishy's Fallout. It may not be finished, but it is one of the Guy/Marian fics that pretty much everyone has read for good reason.  It's plotty, sexy, well-written, in character, and pretty much perfect in every way except for the fact that it's not finished.  This is one of those fics that's as good if not better than lots of published fiction.

Summary: Guy takes Marian up on her offer to kill the Sheriff in exchange for marrying him.  Things get complicated from there.

2. If you're in the mood for some old-fashioned hurt/comfort that's extremely well-written, you've got to read Persistence of Memory by [livejournal.com profile] lady_t_220.  This fic is a spectacular example of h/c that works.  It's painful and heart-wrenching, but ultimately redemptive and cathartic.

Summary: Marian didn't escape to confront Guy about attempting to kill the king. The plot failed anyway, the Sheriff is furious, Guy is wounded, and Marian is stuck with the two of them.

3. Now that you're sniffling, keep the box of tissues handy, because this next one will make you cry with laughter. A Weekend at Vasey's by [livejournal.com profile] aoxelfrieda is absolutely hysterical.  I don't usually do crack!fic, but this... this I love.  Don't eat or drink while you read it unless you want to be cleaning off your monitor. Seriously.

Summary: Vasey's dead of natural causes, Sir Jasper's idiot relative is at the castle to get the stamp that will prove the Sheriff is alive and save Nottingham from being burned to the ground, and Guy, Marian, Allan, and the gang have to keep up the ruse that the sheriff is still alive.  There's ventriloquism, Marian in a shepherdess dress, and poor Guy just wanting to be left alone with his... thoughts. *snort* I'm chuckling to myself just thinking about it.
