Potatoes, Pain, Ponies, and Pirates

Rae and I got to see [profile] hystericblue42 yesterday morning. We went to the Junkyard, which is one of my favorite restaurants here in town. They have fantastic, homey food and delicious skillet potatoes with bell peppers and onions.  We talked about life, work, and fandom, and we gave her her first hit of crack for free watched the first episode of DA with her.

After she left, we got our hands on the most recent Downton Episode.

I don't even have coherent thoughts here. I spent most of the episode curled up on the couch in a comfy blanket with a very concerned dog on my lap and a box of tissues in easy reach. I ended up needing them. I am not ok.  Matthew is not ok, Branson and Sybil are not ok, Mary is not ok, Anna and Bates are not ok... William is as not ok as one can get, and poor Daisy certainly isn't fine, and to top it all off, the one relationship on this show that seemed stable and solid is on much less solid ground than it once was, and I will cry if that new widowed housemaid comes between Robert and Cora.  It was a whole, beautifully shot morass of unspoken tension and feelings and Things That Need To Be Said That Won't Be and sadness and regret and near-kisses and hands on hips... and next week doesn't look to be much better.

With my soul feeling recently-pureed, perhaps it was good that [personal profile] lynxgriffin came over for dinner.  We ate at a good BBQ place, and she showed me some episodes of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.  I had wondered how it was that so many adults could be so crazy about this kid's show.  I don't wonder any more.  It's smart, funny, and very, VERY pink.  And the writers are incredible nerds. There's an episode that is, for all intents and purposes, "The Trouble With Tribbles." I'm still giggling about it.

And, finally, [personal profile] vanilla_elf shared this link on her journal and I have to repost it... Greg Ellis talks about filming OST, layers of period clothing, and what he thinks happened to Groves. Nothing like an interview with the actor who played one of my favorite characters in my favorites franchises to help me pick the pieces of my soul up off the floor. Re-watching this interview with Allen Leech and Jessica Findlay doesn't hurt, either...
