I am computer-less for the time being.
Apr. 15th, 2010 10:42 pmI've been without my computer since yesterday morning. It's been running slowly for quite a while now, and it was getting to the point where it took ten or fifteen minutes from the time I started it up to be at a point where I could... you know... start a program. So, I took it in to the computer lab at one of the schools where I work. The students and faculty there work on faculty and staff computers for free, and other professors swear by them. So, tonight when I was out there, I went in to check and see if they were finished, and they told me that they were going to back up my data, wipe my hard drive, and reinstall. It's that bad, apparently.
Anyway, this means that for a while, I'm probably not going to be around online as much as I would have been. Not that I've been posting to lj with great frequency, but if you message me and wonder why I'm not replying, it's because my computer is sick and in the computer-hospital, and I'm crossing my fingers and hoping everything goes well.
In the meantime, I plan to...
Work with my garden some more. Some of the nasturtium seedlings finally poked their heads above ground this past week, and hopefully by the end of summer, I'll have some neat trailing vines with flowers all around the citrus trees. Also, my squash plants have done pretty well too. I think I can see what will eventually grow into a first flower on one of them today, so that was exiting.
Watch more Deadwood. I have the whole series now. I love it. I have a fanfic snippet on my poor sick computer's hard drive, and I have to restrain myself from watching five or six episodes at a time because once they're gone, they're gone, and I want to have new episodes to look forward to for as long as possible. Second season is... more complicated than the first. I can't figure Trixie out, I alternate between wanting to smack my forehead at Seth's fierce sense of honor and being very proud of him for it, and I have decided that Doc Cochran is probably one of the best human beings in that town. (That, and that he's Bones McCoy's ancestor... crotchety, cranky, but good-hearted... and he has that some mixture of concern and exasperation in his voice when he tells people what's wrong with them...)
Grade a LOT. I may not have my computer, but I can record grades on paper and transfer them later.
Go to Ren Faire! The SoCal Renaissance Faire at the Santa Fe dam is open now! I always have such a great time at this faire... Rae and I and a bunch of other people are all going this weekend.
Clean a bit. I've got books and junk all over the bedroom, and the downstairs is starting to look at bit shabby after the thorough going over it got before our last get-together.
