So there's a PotC 4 rumor going around...
And if it's true, I am going to be so happy I can hardly speak.
We all know by now that while I love Jack and Will and Liz, most of my love for the PotC franchise revolves around relatively minor characters. James Norrington. Lieutenants Gillette and Groves. Anamaria. Now, James is dead. Zoe Saldana is off getting bigger roles all the time and doesn't need to come back and be Anamaria again, and besides, if she was going to come back, I think we would have heard about it long before now. We already know for sure that Theo is going to be in the new movie (hurrah!), and so that just leaves Andrew. I had despaired of ever seeing him again in the franchise when he didn't show up in DMC or AWE. I had thought him transfered to a ship in another part of the world or lost to the hurricane along with the rest of the Royal Navy of the Caribbean fandom.

Anyway, what's there are two things. One of them is a picture of Theo(!!!!!!) in one of the Navy uniforms for this film, which appear to be blessedly free of mustard yellow. They're back to the classic blue coats with white pants, waistcoats, and shirts from the first movie. Thank goodness. I'm hoping this means that we're dealing with the Navy again, and not the EITC. That is, of course, assuming the producers can even make that distinction. We shall see. For now, blue and white uniforms =sexy awesome. And... Theo looks lovely in his uniform with his sword at his side and his hand on his hip with his shiny black shoes getting kind of sandy... *wistful sigh* Ok... enough fangirling for now.
Anyway, Theo's standing in at the front of what looks like a beached lifeboat with a whole bunch of debris scattered around and someone who looks like Gibbs still in the boat. There are a couple of other Naval-looking guys standing around, and I'm wondering what on earth happened. Shipwreck sounds likely, but why is Gibbs with them, then? (Not that I don't love Gibbs... Gibbs+Theo+Ale+Outlandish Sea Stories = SO MUCH POTENTIAL FOR FUN.) Um... what else... the boats look like they came off of a Navy ship. They're very... neat looking. Well taken care of. Not at all the boats on the Pearl that look beat-up but still serviceable.
The SECOND thing is... a picture of Barbossa, dressed in a blue coat with so much gold ribbon on it. It doesn't look like anything we've ever seen him wear before, and he's got one of those... I'll call it a "Napoleon hat" for lack of a proper term. The ones that aren't exactly the tricorner hats any more, but look like they're from a bit later... I think Jack Aubrey wears one in the Master and Commander movie. Anyway. Hector's got one of those on. And he's standing on the beach in the middle of the same shipwreck and there's a navy officer behind him in a snazzy blue coat with a lot of gold trim on the sleeves. His wig is slightly askew, but it's still recognizable, and he's still got his hat, and HE LOOKS JUST LIKE GILLETTE. It's not just that he's the right hight and the right... shade of pale. He looks annoyed in a way that I have only ever seen Andrew pull off, and... I don't know... there's something about his body language and the way he holds himself that is very familiar to me. (Yes, I've watched the "CotBP: Navy Version" way too many times, which is basically scene-flipping to every part with the Navy in it...) All I have to say is... if that's NOT him, it's someone who could be closely related.
Eventually, I'll start to ask myself what on earth Hector and Maybe!Andrew are doing in the same shot on the same beach in the middle of the same apparent shipwreck. But for now... OMG ANDREW'S NOT DEAD IN A HURRICANE! (Probably.) And he's BACK and having scenes with major characters! This means we might get to see him with one eyebrow quirked and his voice dripping with sarcasm again... *loves the "little mermaid flopped up on deck" scene SO much* And this also means that Andrew and Theo might actually talk to each other in canon! With all of the fanfic I read and the personal backstory where they're odd-couple-like friends I've had running around in my head since the first movie, I forget that we never once get to see them talk in canon. And... Andrew looks like he's gotten some sort of promotion with all of the gold on his cuffs. Good for him!
So... if someone had asked me this morning, "What really unlikely things would you like to happen in PotC 4?" I would have said, "I want James back, and since I know I'm not going to get that, I'd love to see Andrew or Anamaria."
One out of three isn't bad. Not bad at all. (And though I've tried to maintain my "It's just a rumor" distance... HA. That's shot now. I think I'm going to feel like an older, more jaded human being if I find out that isn't Damian O'Hare in that picture.)
